To
start the year 2016 a 40 year old man, Friday Anyim decided to gift his step
mother with a ticket out of this world. The
sad incident which claimed the life of Mrs. Bennedeth Anyim took place in
Umuenem, Ezinesi-Oduma in Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State on January 1, 2016 led to her death.
Reports
had it that she met her death in an attempt to intervene in a fight between Friday
and another of his siblings in the family.
The
suspect Friday who is a son of one of the three wives of Mr. Samuel Anyim, his
father was involved in an argument with his elder sister, Abigail Anyim, because
of his plan to sell a water tank in order to use the proceeds of the sale to
enable him purchase a motorcycle, locally called Okada for commercial transport
purpose. A plan objected to by his sister, Abigail.
In
the course of the heated argument, Friday was reported to have picked up an axe
to attack his sister Abigail but his step mother Bennedeth who was trying to
separate the two got in the way and was struck by the axe swung by Friday. The
suspect is alleged to have ran away when he discovered that his step mother was
dead.
Enquires
made to the Enugu State Police Command on the incident met a confirmation
through a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ebere Amaraizu
who said the police was investigating the matter.
The
Command’s PRO stated that the deceased’s husband, was informed about the
incident soon after it occurred and left in the middle of a meeting in a nearby
house, only to get to his home and meet his wife Bennedeth in a pool of her own
blood. She was already dead and could not be saved.
