NIGERIAN MUSICIAN DAVIDO IN BABY CUSTODY STRUGGLE WITH DELE MOMODU’S FAMILY

DAVIDO & SOPHIA WHEN IT WAS GOOD

In 2016, the controversies of Nigeria’s music stars seem to be heating the news for now. A few days ago it was the confrontation between Olamide and Don Jazzy that filled the pages of both online social media and the newspapers at the news stand nationwide.

Well, this time comes the messy story of music star David Adeleke aka Davido. He is a struggle with one of his baby mamas, Sophia Momodu over the custody of their baby, Imade Adeleke, who is currently in custody of the Adelekes.

The Momodus state that there had always been a demand from the Adelekes for the baby and eventually on July 11, 2015 invited Sophia to visit Davido’s half-sister. Miss Ashley Coco Adeleke with the baby, Imade at her residence at Baderinwa Alabi Street, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos. It is reported that on getting to the house, the baby was snatched from the mother and she was sent off the property and warned never to come back for the baby.

The Momodu family says the Adelekes boast that only a court order can make them release the baby, a claim not yet verified. Meanwhile they say Sophia continues to grieve the forceful collection of the baby from her.

In the meantime, the lawyer to Sophia Momodu, Mr. Gbolaga Ajayi has petitioned the Adelekes at the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NANTIP) stating that the child was forcefully taken from her and that there are plans by the Adeleke family to have the baby flown abroad and kept out of the reach of her mother, Sophia.

Consequent on this, the families of both the Adelekes and the Momodus have been invited to the offices of NANTIP for a possible resolution of the matter per the petition dated December 30, 2015. The meeting which both families have agreed to attend would be held this week.

The petition which mentioned the father and mother of the baby shows that they are unmarried. It also states that Davido’s sister Ashley had tried to travel out with the baby but failed to get through immigration when she first claimed to be the baby’s mother but this was found to be untrue when their passports where taken. When asked to produce the mother of the baby she rather than explain ran off with the baby leaving behind her passport and that of the baby. He father, Mr. Deji Adeleke is alleged to have gone back to immigration to sort out the situation.

The petition goes on to state that but for the assistance of the Momodu family including Mr. Dele Momodu, the Adeleke family would have since succeeded in taking away the baby from Sophia.
