Reports have it that Mr. Joshua
Okpo, the Rector of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, Akwa Ibom state, yesterday
Tuesday passed away in Abuja, Nigeria.
He
was in Abuja, on official duty for the academy and he was to appear before members
of the National Assembly on yesterday morning to answer questions on the budget
of the academy.
The report states that
after waiting for long at the National Assembly complex without the the rector
showing up as planned, the staff of the academy went to his residence in Abuja and found him dead in his bedroom.
The
cause of his death is yet to be ascertained.
Mr.
Okpo's body has in the meantime been deposited in the mortuary of the National
Hospital, Abuja.
It would be recalled that it was President
Muhammadu Buhari who renewed the appointment of Joshua Okpo as the Rector of
the Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN) Oron for a second and final term of four
years, after his initial appointment in 2011 by former President Goodluck
Jonathan. Before this he was a director at the Transport Ministry.
