 The Senate of Nigeria today, Wednesday, December 16, considered a Bill for an Act to establish the North/East Development Commission.

The Bill which is sponsored by the Senate Leader, Senator Ali Ndume, Borno South provides for the Commission when created to be responsible for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of roads, houses and business premises of the victims of insurgency and other related matters is co sponsored by all the North-East senators and is meant to restore and rebuild the areas devastated by the insurgency in the North-East Region.


Senators made their contributions to the debate with Senators Usman Nafada and Danjuma Goje stating that the Commission would bring a lot of benefits to the region. Senator Emmanuel Bwacha said the Bill was was timely but advised against taking undue advantage of the Commission when its comes into existence. Senator Bukka Ibrahim also made his contribution to the debate.

The Senate thereafter approved the Bill for the second reading and referred it to its committees on Establishments and Special Duties with their reports expected back in four weeks.
