Reports have it that a transgender couple have fallen
into the course of nature as Diane Rodriguez, a transsexual woman aged 33 years
has impregnated her transsexual husband, Fernando Machado aged 22 years in a
surprise alternation of roles of the partners.
The news which was broken on Facebook by
Rodriguez, a leading figure in Ecuador’s LGBT community when she announced that
she had impregnated Fernando caught many on social media unawares as many
thought it a big surprise as it should have been the other way around.
The couple is now held as making a first as a transsexual
couple to be expecting a baby in their home country, Ecuador. The two had met
some two years ago as transsexuals on social media and went to be a couple when
they feel in love and eventually met physically. They say their pregnancy is
breaking down the chains in a society where transsexuality is looked at as
being strange.
Rodriguez had in 2013 become the first
transgender candidate to contest for congress in Ecuador but lost the bid. She
had earlier married another transgender in 2014 but the marriage broke off
within a year.
The reaction on social media was mixed with some
okay with the news while some others did not know how to take in the details as
they are used to seeing men impregnate women and not vice versa.
However, explanations show that the couple,
Machado and Rodriguez in their transformation did not carry out the full
surgical operation during their sex reassignment process and therefore still
maintained their birth sexes which made it possible for the natural to occur
with the result that pregnancy happened.
The couple alleges that they are not being
treated fairly by the medical staff handling their prenatal care in their
country which they view as holding transsexuality as a taboo.
