The US President, Barrack Obama has granted clemency to the son of former Nigerian Head of State, Yakubu Gowon and Edith Ike Okongwu, Musa Jack Ngonadi who has spent 22 years in a California prison for conspiracy in the importation of heroin into the US.
Musa lived in the US with his mother before he was arrested in November 18, 1992. He was aged 23 years at the time of arrest.
He was arrested by the US Customs Service and after trial sentenced to 40 years imprisonment for the crime which he denied committing claiming that he was set up.
Musa in the course of his incarceration studied for and graduated with a law degree turning out to be a legal adviser to fellow inmates.
On the outside his family put up a fight for his release leading to his being granted freedom by President Obama.
