BLIND BUT WITH RARE SKILL: SIGHTLESS SAUDI FEMALE ARTIST’S PAINTINGS ON EXHIBITION

Some cases do go against the norm, however, it’s been said that when an individual loses one of the senses, there is compensation in another with a remarkable increase in its use. 

That seems to be the case with a female Saudi artist, Noorah Al-Majrashi who is visually challenged but with her rare talent is still able to paint. She recently had her paintings displayed at an exhibition and they were a remarkable attraction to those who attended.

Noorah Al-Majrashi who has done more than 300 artworks in the course of her career had her artwork shown at the “Muntijoon 3” exhibition at the Riyadh convention center where one of them sold for SR8,000 ($2,136).


Al-Majrashi who said she started to paint at the age of 9 years, titled her work on display “White Glass.” She stated that she developed her painting skill with support from her mother and other family members.


The artist who has a flair for painting scenes from nature make use of special tools for her painting and recently she did a special painting in honor of one of her close friends who passed away after suffering from cancer. There have been a number of demands from prospective clients for more special paintings from her.

The Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry organizes the Muntijoon 3 annual exhibition with the aim of bringing to public view the talents of Saudi women and also assists the women to sell their products. 

Al-Majrashi said she brought her artwork for display at the exhibition as she was confident that it would be a suitable place to showcase her paintings.
