TRIO OF TROPICAL ISLANDS ON THE MARKET FOR $100 MILLION PLANNED FOR ECOTOURISM INITIATIVE (PHOTOS)

The three islands are located off the coast of Panama
THE THREE ISLANDS

The Cayonetas Islands after 35 years are for sale with a new name and a price tag of $100 million. This sale is to be done in conjunction with previous University of California at Irvine ecology professor, Dr. Hana Ayala. She is the visionary behind the sale and actually a co seller of the Islands and it is expected that the new owner will hire her company Pangea World to assist in design plans as a consultant.
Together, they span 1800 acres

The Islands are each about half hour by helicopter from Panama City; they consist of lush islands which have 19 miles of glittering coastline and 50 unpolluted beaches which are undeveloped and uninhabited and a great breeding place for sea turtles. You would also see several types of birds not found on the mainland in these Islands.
They're home to 12 new sub-species of birds

All these natural beauty is not going to just anybody with lots of money, it is expected that the new owner should be environmentally friendly as the plan is that they would be asked to help turn the islands into an ecotourism destination, which will help support scientific research and conservation efforts in the region.
70% of the islands must remain untouched
NOT MUCH DEVELOPMENT TO BE ALLOWED
Dr. Ayala says they are selling a legacy and not a property adding that the new owner will bequeath a lasting benefit to the environment and to humanity. The plan is to build a gorgeous new private residence and some luxury, eco-friendly beachfront resorts. However, 70% of the islands must remain a nature preserve and the remaining 30% would be eligible for eco-conscious development. Thereafter, rich tourists who have an interest in the environment would be attracted and the revenue realized used to fund scientific exploration. The research could include studying the coral off the islands to see if they boast any medicinal value among several other topics.

So for the superrich, here lies the perfect getaway, right in the heart of nature, actually a dream paradise. Though not the first in the purchase of Islands, the ideals of this initiative are much different from what had driven the earlier purchases as this goes a lot further in the demands made on the buyer to be more ecofriendly.

As Dr. Ayala says “it’s very beautiful, it’s applaudable, what we are doing is in a totally different league.”
