The new movie on the block "Star Wars: The Force
Awakens" continues to create new records, this time reaching sales of $49.3 million on Christmas Day in North America,
this is the highest total sale ever on Christmas day in the movie industry as
reported on Saturday.
This new record dusts the previous Christmas Day record of
$24.6 million which was achieved by the film "Sherlock Holmes" on
December 25, 2009. The information is provided by the movie industry tracker,
Exhibitor Relations.
The film is enjoying great acceptance even from critics
and is viewed as having infused freshness into the Star Wars brand which is in
its seventh season that has so far since its launch mid-December 2015 realized
$890.3 million across the world in ticket sales with some $440.4 million paid
to watch the movie in the United States. The Star Wars movie was first created
by George Lucas in 1977 and has since then kept coming back and having diehard
fans from different generations.
The movie continues to create and set a number of other
box office records, like the highest earning film in domestic opening night,
biggest domestic single day sales and biggest global opening weekend.
The Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set to also take on
and surpass the all time box office sales achieved by the movies
"Avatar", $2.79 billion and "Titanic", $2.19 billion. We
watch in anticipation as history is being made.
