NIGERIA; DRUNK MOBILE POLICEMAN KILLS THREE OTHERS AND SELF IN LAGOS

It has been reported that a mobile policeman by name Sergeant Steven James yesterday did the unthinkable when in a drunken state he put his rifle to the wrong use. The incident occurred on Anibaba Street in the Ketu area of Lagos when he apparently in a state of stupor shot to death a man and a set of male twins. He thereafter went on to commit suicide by shooting himself.

The said mobile policeman was on duty at a hotel on Anibaba Street, with the task of ensuring the security of the hotel’s guests and others within its premises but is said to have indulged himself in the consumption of excess alcohol. James is said to have lost control of his senses thereafter got into an altercation with those around him leading to the sad incident.

The events leading to the shooting are still not clear to those who were around when it occurred. Eyewitnesses said James first shot one person then the other two while the people around watched in awe. He then went on to shoot sporadically in all directions before turning the gun on himself.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joe Offor, speaking on phone said “It actually happened. The officer was drunk and he shot three people and later turned the gun on himself.”

Those present at the scene of the incident continued to express surprise at the act perpetrated by the deceased mobile policeman and truly one can only attribute it to his consumption of alcohol but the question to ask is, why drink while on duty?
