ALLEGED WIFE KILLER IN SOUTH AFRICA CAUSES DEATH OF FOUR OTHERS IN ESCAPE BID

SOUTH AFRICAN POLICE PERSONNEL

In a case likely to turn out to “had I known better” a man in the Free State (formerly the Orange State) in South Africa has worsened his case of allegedly murdering his wife by killing an additional four persons in his attempt to escape from the long hands of the law.
The police on Saturday reported that the 22 year old suspect killed his 27 year old wife by strangling her at their Namahadi, Qwaqua home on Thursday and escaped taking along with him their five year old daughter as he fled the scene in a vehicle.

Thereafter, following his driving over the speed limit in his bid to escape, the Police Senekal Traffic Division stopped him for speeding. The suspect is said to have offered a bribe to an officer to let him go and when the officer refused, he sped off.
The police then got in contact with the neighboring Marquard police who set up a roadblock on the R707. He beat the roadblock and thereafter was involved in a collision with an oncoming vehicle bearing Lesotho license plates. The four occupants in the other vehicle were killed and police vehicles in pursuit destroyed. The accident also left the man and his daughter injured.
The police arrested him and took him to the Senekal hospital and on Monday, he would appear before the Marquard Magistrate's Court to face charges of murder, culpable homicide, and bribery brought against him by the police.
