TARABE STATE GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION TRIBUNAL REMOVES GOVERNOR ISHAKU, GIVES IT TO LADY AL-HASSAN

AISHA AL-HASSAN

GOVERNOR DARIUS ISHAKU

The Taraba State Governorship Election Tribunal today, Saturday, November 7, 2015, in its judgment declared the election of the state Governor Darius Ishaku of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) null and void.
The Tribunal returned its judgment in favour of Aisha Al-Hassan, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the 2015 governorship election who had challenged the election of Governor Darius Ishaku, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate in the April 11 election.
Delivering judgement, the Tribunal Chairman, Justice Musa Abubakar said it was the tribunal’s decision that Aisha Al-Hassan should be returned as the actual winner of the election.
Aisha Al-Hassan, who was recently cleared as Minister-designate by the Senate, was in the tribunal venue as ruling was read.
There is yet no official response from Darius Ishaku but an appeal of the judgment is expected.
When Aisha Al-Hassan is sworn in as Governor of Taraba State she would take her place in history as the first female to be elected as governor in Nigeria. She had represented the Taraba North constituency in the Senate.
