SEN. BEN MURRAY-BRUCE DESCENDS ON GOVERNORS CLAMOURING FOR WAGE REDUCTION

Senator Benedict Murray-Bruce 59, representing the Bayelsa East district at Nigeria's Senate has come down on the state Governors reportedly clamoring for a downward review of the current N18,000 minimum wage.

SENATOR BEN MURRAY-BRUCE
The senator reacted to the clamour on his twitter handle @benmurraybruce on Monday, November 23, 2015 stating that he was aware that over N18,000 was spent monthly to feed the dogs at the different government houses in the country.

He said it was wicked for the governors to then imagine that this amount which was also less than the N19,800 monthly allowance received by the NYSC members could feed a civil servant who had dependents to also take care of among other liabilities.

Senator Murray-Bruce also called the Governors attention to the prevailing high rate of inflation, noting that in the past four years the price of food items and fuel had gone up tremendously and a reduction oof the minimum wage would only help to increase fraudulent practices among civil servants in order to be able to complement their salaries. He said it was imperative that the workers were paid well.
