The Super Eagles midfielder Fegor Ogude’s wife Maimunat Ogude has been kidnapped according to reports received. Ogude who also plays his international football with Amkar Perm of Russia making the announcement on Tuesday said she was kidnapped by armed men in Warri, Delta State, Nigeria on Monday night.

The player said he left home before his wife and children also went out with their children. He said he received a call from his junior brother later called to say that his wife had been kidnapped by unknown persons who sent his children out of their family car and drove away with his wife in the car.

Ogude said he immediately made a report to the police but he has not been able to trace the kidnappers nor hear from his wife since 7:30pm on Monday night. He, however, said the police had recovered his car in Ughelli with no further developments on the matter.

He expressed concern with the whereabouts and state of his wife who had been incommunicado since the incident occurred.

In a related development, friends and teammates of Ogude have expressed their hope and prayers that his wife, Muminat is rescued from the clutches of the kidnappers safe and sound.

They observed that the player is presently disturbed about the incident and called on the Nigeria Police to intensify its efforts to get his wife back from the kidnappers as soon as possible.

Kidnapp cases have risen in the country in recent years, not too long ago the mother of the country’s dream team Eagles, Samson Siasia was kidnapped and later released. There have been other high profile kidnap cases and the security agencies do not seem to have yet found a solution to this vice that is slowly turning into the norm.

What can be done to stem this? Let’s hope the police and other relevant agencies can come up with a solution soon enough as others too play their part for the resolution must be multi-faceted.
