NIGERIA: PDP’S SERIAKE DICKSON WINS ELECTION TO RETURN AS GOVERNOR OF BAYELSA STATE

The Governorship election in Bayelsa State has finally been successfully concluded by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and a winner declared in the person of the current Governor, Seriake Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The supplementary election in the Southern Ijaw and some other Local Government Areas held on Saturday, January 9 was basically a contest between the PDP candidate and that of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Timipre Sylva.


The build up to the election was one filled with tense moments but the election yesterday was not as trouble filled as expected. INEC first announced the results of the six other LGAs in which it had conducted yesterday’s supplementary elections and then after a delay to wait for the final collation of the Southern Ijaw LGA elections results, the supervisory body came out with the result today.

The final collation covered results of the elections in Yenagoa, Nembe, Ekeremor, Ogbia, Sagbama, Brass and ofcourse the Southern Ijaw LGA and the final computation led to declaration of Governor Seriake Dickson of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) as the official winner of the election which now stands concluded.

INEC’s conclusive result announced today in Yenagoa is as shown below:

Total Registered Voters: 654,493
Accredited Voters:         242,114
APC:                              86, 852
PDP:                            134, 998
Margin:                            48,148
Total Valid Votes:          225, 520
Total rejected votes:            6647
