AMANDLA STENBERG |
Hunger
Games actress, 17 year old Amandla Stenberg is the focus of the cover story in February
2016’s edition of the Teen Vogue magazine. The cover story by Solange Knowles
will see her use the opportunity to come out of the closet. In the story
headlined “How Our February Cover Star Amandla Stenberg Learned to Love Her
Blackness,” the star seeks to inspire other black women come out clean and be
their real self.
In
the snippets of the interview prereleased, Stenberg says “It’s a really, really
hard thing to be silenced, and it’s deeply bruising to fight against your
identity and to mold yourself into shapes that you just shouldn’t be in. As
someone who identifies as a black bisexual woman, I’ve been through it and it
hurts and it’s awkward and it’s uncomfortable.”
She
goes on to find company in women like Solange, Ava DuVernay, Willow Smith and
all other black girls stating that nothing needs to change. She adds that they cannot
be suppressed but are meant to express their joy, love, tears, be big and bold
and definitely not easy to swallow.”
Stenberg
is already a person of note within her contemporaries, she has built a strong
online presence and uses this media as a platform to share messages aimed at
creating a social awareness. She is known to have led the way, to have asked
questions, etc. She has made the best of the opportunity and is today acknowledged
as a voice for her generation.
Thus
she seeks in the forthcoming publication of her interview to again set the pace
in her disclosure.
