HM. QUEEN ELIZABETH II |
This 2016, on April 21 to be
precise, the Queen of England, Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, who is also ceremonial
head of 31countries which make up the Commonwealth nations and 12 other
countries that have attained independence under her reign would be marking her 90TH
birthday.
Elizabeth Alexandra Mary who became
the Queen on February 6, 1952 following the death of her father King George VI
has had quite a remarkable reign on the throne. However, as she gracefully
turns 90, the Queen is expectedly going to slow down on her activities. She is
reported to have said in her broadcast on Christmas Day that she would be
having a busy 2016 but those in the know say that is not to be as she is most
likely to be found more at the Balmoral in summer and during weekends at the
Windsor Castle, both would serve to reduce her pace of life.
The Queen’s public engagements are
also going to be reduced with the younger generation of her family, like Prince
Charles, Prince William and his wife having the honor of standing in for her at
many of such public outings.
The high point of this year for the
Queen would be the celebration of her birthday on April 21, and that day
information has it that the Queen will be marking it at the Windsor Castle.
Thereafter, there would be more
activities coming up later in commemoration of her 90TH birthday. This
includes;
May 12 - 15: A pageant to celebrate the Queen’s life holding at Windsor Castle
June 10: National Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral
June 11: The Queen’s Birthday Parade on Horse Guards Parade.
June 12: The Patron's Lunch, a street party for 10,000 people on
The Mall to celebrate the Queen's patronage of more than 600
charities and organizations.
It is surely going to be a busy time
for Her Majesty but also one packed with exciting activities. She surely
deserves it, what with a lifetime of service to the people just like she
promised the people when she ascended the throne. God bless the Queen.
She will be in London for a series
of special commemorations in June.
