Reports have it that that singer,
Natalie Marie Cole, who in her music career won Grammy awards has died at the
age of 65 years. Natalie was the daughter of the legendary jazz singer; Nat
King Cole was also a music star of her own standing passed on yesterday,
December 31, 2015 at a hospital in Los Angeles in her home country the United
States of America. Her publicist Maureen O’Connor who made the announcement
stated that she died of congestive heart failure resulting from underlying
medical issues and complications from a kidney transplant and Hepatitis C.
The late Natalie who made a mark in
the musical scene in the mid–1970s as an R&B artist with the hits ‘This
Will Be’, ‘Inseparable’, and ‘Our Love’ had a successful career spanning over
three decades. Her 1991 album, ‘Unforgettable…With love’ which was actually a tribute
to her father with reworked versions of some of his best-known songs, including
‘That Sunday That Summer’, ‘Too Young’ and ‘Mona Lisa’ was the height of her great
success. The album recorded sales of about 14 million copies and got her six
Grammys, including album of the year as well record and song of the year for
the title track duet, ‘Unforgettable’, recorded as a duet with her father’s
voice coming back to life again some twenty five years after his demise.
Her venturing into music was by
chance as she was actually a premed student at the University of Massachusetts
and had to she was invited to stand in for a sick friend who sang with a local
music group, what was supposed to be temporary turned into a permanent position
and led to her stopping her medical career.
Natalie had a kidney transplant
operation in 2009 and had also earlier been diagnosed with hepatitis C in 2008.
Her kidney transplant was unsuccessful as her new kidneys failed after she was
operated on.
She left behind a son and other members
of the family.
