MISS UNIVERSE 2015 |
The
Miss Universe 2015 pageant which held yesterday, Sunday, December 20, at The
Axis at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada ended on a
massively confused state. The controversy which is coming at the end of the pageant
would certainly linger not only in the minds of the contestants but also that
of viewers who tuned in from across the universe and the reason is generating
mixed reaction from different people.
The
host of the pageant’s 2015 final, Steve Harvey was at the center of the mix up
when he mistakenly announced Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as the Miss
Universe 2015 only for him to realize he had read the results wrongly. Apologizing
for his mistake, he announced the actual winner, Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo
Wurtzbach and the crown had to shift heads as Miss Columbia was stripped of her
crown a few minutes later to become the first runner up, bringing the show to
an immediate end. Miss Columbia was thereafter consoled by fellow contestants
who gathered round her.
Former
Miss Universe Paulina Vega, a Columbian did the two crowning, first on fellow Miss
Columbia Ariadna Gutierrez, only to in line with the correction retrieve the
crown and crown Miss Phillipines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, winner out of women from
83 countries aged from 19 to 27 years. Steve Harvey’s mistake received hard
knocks on social media where it went viral even as he apologized and took
responsibility for the error. Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, who won the Miss Universe
2015 pageant, is only the third woman from the Phillipines to win the title,
with the last contestant winning the title in 1973.
The evening had earlier gone on smoothly without any hitch
with a number of the contestants shining in their evening gown and swimsuit
competition. However, there were moments like when Miss Universe Australia
Monika Radulovic missed her chance at the Miss Universe 2015 crown after she
impressed the judges and social media viewers but lost out to the top three
contestants, Miss Columbia, Miss Phillipines, and Miss USA after she failed to
give a satisfactory answer on the legalization of medical marijuana in
Australia.
