A Jordanian born American today, Sunday attempted to open the cabin door of a Lufthansa plane midair over Europe but was stopped by members of a handball team, reports officials and witnesses.

The president of the Serbian Vojvodina Handball Club, Milan Djukic said the man looked suspicious even before the incident. He said assistant coach Milan Mirkovic and a player held down the culprit and many passengers did not notice the incident.

However, the plane’s exit doors don't open during flights and the Lufthansa Flight 1406 made its trip from Frankfurt to Belgrade without a stop with the culprit confined to a business class seat and under watch for the rest of the two hour flight.

The culprit was handed over to security officials at Belgrade and is to await a hearing. Lufthansa also denied some reports that stated that the culprit tried to enter the cockpit. It also confirmed that the safety of the flight was never jeopardized as a result of the incident.
