NIGERIA'S U-23 TEAM

Nigeria’s U-23 football team coached by Samson Siasia have qualified for the football event at next year’s Olympics taking place at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil after beating Senegal today, Wednesday by one goal. The goal against the host, Senegal also qualified Nigeria for the finals of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations. The Nigerians played without the team captain, Azubuike Okechukwu who was on suspension for a second yellow card in last Saturday’s match against Algeria, also not featured was Stanley Dimgba but the team still won as assured by its coach.

The first half of the match had the Senegalese team dominating the Nigerian team but losing a penalty to the safe gloves of Emmanuel Daniel, the goalkeeper. The Nigerians, however, had the second half of the match in their control and gaining a penalty too in the process. Nigeria converted the penalty taken by Etebo Oghenekaro into the only goal of the match.

The Nigerians are now billed to play in the competition’s final on Saturday in Senegal’s capital, Dakar and hopefully, the team would not go home empty handed as promised by coach Siasia.
