NIGERIA'S JOHN MIKEL OBI SAYS JOSE MOURINHO'S DEPARTURE HAS LED TO AN IMPROVED CHELSEA TEAM

JOHN OBI MIKEL

Nigerian international, John Obi Mikel has reacted to the removal of the erstwhile Chelsea coach, Jose Mourinho. He is of the opinion that the departure of Mourinho has led to a change of atmosphere at the club. He actually believes that the team is the better for it.

He is also comfortable with the handling of the team by the interim coach, Guus Hiddink, who was again handed the role by Roman Abramovich, just as he had handled it in the past for three months in 2009. Hiddink made a success of the first stint as he led the club to an FA Cup victory.

The authorities of Stamford Bridge had relieved Mourinho of his duties when he failed to find success in the domestic Premier League with the team losing the game in nine out of sixteen matches. This led to the champions going down to the 16th position on the league table by the 7th month. The decline of Mourinho’s Chelsea is noted to have started with his sale of goalkeeper, Cech.

Mikel notes that despite the fact that all the players at Chelsea are new to Hiddink apart from him and John Terry he thinks Hiddink would make a success as he’s been at the team before and knows what to do to achieve it. He expressed confidence that the team would not only escape going to the lower position but also would appreciate on its position on the league table to come among the top four.

He, however, said Mourinho was a great coach, but as usual changes had to happen and his removal was one of such.
