LIN SINHAO |
China
today, Friday, executed a Chinese medical student, Lin Sinhao, who killed his
roommate at a prestigious Shanghai university through the poisoning of a
drinking water dispenser, the official news agency, Xinhua reported.
A
Shanghai court passed the death sentence on him for the murder of fellow student Huang
Yang "out of spite" by introducing the toxic chemical
N-Nitrosodimethylamine into a water dispenser in April 2013.
Lin
Sinhao was executed after his appeals failed. He met with members of his family
before he was executed.
Chinese
broadcaster, CCTV aired an interview with Sinhoa before his execution in which
he stated his remorse for the murder saying his death would mean "paying
off the debts", adding "I owe a lot to Huang Yang's parents. I wish I
could do something to compensate them and wish they can continue their life in
a healthy and positive manner.”
Sinhao's
action was held as "abominable" and his crime "extremely
severe" by the Supreme Court as he knowingly poisoned the victim and did
not reveal this this this fact throughout Huang's two weeks of hospital
treatment.
The
chemical N-Nitrosodimethylamine can cause liver damage and affect the blood in
humans, according to the US Environmental Protection Agency.
Despite
the decline in execution in China, it is still known to execute more people
than the rest of the world put together.
