APC WINS KOGI STATE 2015 GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION

GOVERNOR ELECT YAHAYA BELLO
Mr. Yahaya Bello of the All Progressives Congress has won the Kogi State gubernatorial election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and consequently been declared the governor-elect of Kogi State. This comes after yesterday’s conclusion of the governorship election declared inconclusive on November 22.

Saturday’s Supplementary election was conducted in 91 polling units across 18 local government areas and the Returning Officer, Immanuel Kucha, declared Mr. Bello winner at 5.26 AM today, Sunday.

Prof. Kucha, Vice Chancellor, University of Agriculture, Makurdi, declaring the result said the APC got 6,885 votes in the supplementary election, bringing the total votes it received to 247,752, having polled 240,857 in the earlier November 21 election.

He stated the second runner up, the incumbent governor; Idris Wada of the Peoples Democratic Party scored 5,363 in the supplementary election thus earning a total of 204, 877 votes, having got 199,514 at the November 21 election.

Prof. Kucha said “That Yahaya Bello of the APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the majority is hereby decakred winner.”

It would be recalled tha Mr. Bello, 40, became the APC governorship candidate for the supplementary election, following the death of Prince Abubakar Audu on November 22.

The result shows that a total of 1,379,971 voters registered for the election but only 526,389 were accredited. Of the 494,723 votes cast, the total number of valid votes cast was 472,983, rejected votes came up to 21740; and 3,342 votes were cancelled.

The supplementary election was regarded as peaceful and calm though characterised by low turnout of voters.
