Information on Saturday, November 7, 2015 has it that the British flag carrier, Virgin Atlantic Airways is pulling out of the Nigerian route. It is alleged that the British carrier had already shut down its call center in the Ikeja axis of the Lagos.

The airline though yet to officially announce its pull out, has issued letters of sack to its Nigerian cabin crew numbered about 20, giving them three week notice and no payoff.
The move is believed to be as a result of the disappointment of the airline’s management over the unfulfilled promises by the Nigerian government on its operations in the country. This is the second time the airline is disappointed doing business in Nigeria. In 2003, the government invited the chairman of Virgin Atlantic Airways, Sir Richard Branson to float a domestic carrier in the country. Within a few months, the airline set up Virgin Nigeria Airways, serving as its technical partner. However, six years later, Virgin Atlantic Airways pulled out of the partnership, with Branson saying he was very wary about doing business in Nigeria.
The Nigerian aviation unions have, however, given assurance that the entitlements of Nigerian cabin crew would be paid in line with relevant labour laws.
