CHIEF OBAFEMI AWOLOWO'S JEWEL OF INESTIMABLE VALUE, H. I. D. AWOLOWO'S OBSEQUIES COMMENCE IN LAGOS


LATE CHIEF (MRS.) HANNAH IDOWU DIDEOLU AWOLOWO
The last rites of the widow of the late Premier of the former Western Region of Nigeria, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, commenced yesterday, Sunday, November 15, 2015 with her body lying in state at her Lagos family home , No. 31 Park Lane, Apapa.


The conveyance of her body by hearse to the house was disrupted at about 500 meters to the venue by a mammoth crowd. It had to be continued with the pallbearers from the TOS Funeral Undertakers carrying the glass casket the remaining distance to the house with crowd including family members accompanying them and singing praises of the late matriarch of the Awolowo family.

The body was received at the house by 2 Anglican priests and the crowd eventually paid its last respect as her body lay in state.

Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, All Progressives Congress (APC) National Leader Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo and many others described the late Mrs. Awolowo in glowing terms, citing her as an exemplary mother.

Chief (Mrs.) H. I. D. Awolowo (1915 - 2015) is to be buried in a gold casket in her home town, Ikenne, Ogun state, Nigeria on November 25, 2015.
