The Rivers State Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja today, October 26, 2015 upturned the election victory of the speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Mr. Owaji who represents the Andoni state constituency. Also nullified were the elections of 20 other members of the state House of Assembly voted in under the umbrella of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The Tribunal based its decision on the incidents of vote rigging and violence during the April 11, 2015 election. With this, the Rivers State House of Assembly can no longer function as the 11 members remaining can not form a quorum.
